Sleeping in Geneva Airport

Geneva Airport (GVA, Genève Aéroport) is not a 24-hour terminal. It closes overnight until about 4:00 am, no flights depart between midnight and 6:00 am, and there are no sleep pods or rest zones. The overnight closure

The terminal closes overnight: no scheduled departures between midnight and 6:00 am, the last arrivals land up to about 12:30 am and the building then closes until about 4:00 am. The airport states that passengers may not remain inside during the closure. It does not publish exact closing and opening times, so allow for small variations; third-party guides give 4:00 am to midnight as the opening window.

The closure follows a night curfew, and the doors close after the last arrivals. After a flight landing at 11:30 pm there is time to collect bags and leave, but not to wait in the terminal; arrange your hotel or transport before you land.

No pods, no rest zones, no overnight lounges

There are no sleep pods, nap cabins, quiet rooms or designated rest zones at Geneva Airport. The lounges (Swissport Horizon, marhaba, Aspire Crystal and the SWISS lounges) open from 5:30 am at the earliest and close in the evening; none offers overnight access, and none has confirmed showers. During opening hours, the two public showers cost CHF 15 with towel and toiletries: one in the baggage reclaim area near carousel 6, one near the Post Office in the public area. Tokens come from the Swissport welcome desk and the information desk respectively.

Getting to the airport for the first flights

The airport says early services run between 6:00 am and 8:00 am for first flights, and third-party timetables show trains from just after 5:00 am; check sbb.ch for your date.

For the hours before that, the tpg aérobus is free: buses to the airport between 4:30 am and 6:30 am from the main urban areas, financed by Genève Aéroport. A boarding pass for a same-day flight is the ticket. Groups of ten or more must pre-register with the airport.

Hotels with the earliest shuttles and breakfasts

The closest hotels are a 7- to 12-minute walk from the terminal, so the shuttle is optional for an early flight. If you would rather not walk with luggage at 5:00 am, these free shuttles start earliest:

For breakfast before an early departure, the ibis Genève Aéroport starts at 4:30 am on weekdays and weekends, the earliest published start in the area; its shuttle runs from 5:00 am. The ibis Styles Genève Palexpo Aéroport has no shuttle but a bar open 24 hours and breakfast from 5:30 am, a 10-minute walk from the terminal. The Hilton, Mövenpick and Nash do not publish breakfast start times; the Crowne Plaza’s breakfast starts at 6:30 am. Confirm with the hotel.

For a late arrival with the terminal about to close, the Nash shuttle’s last departure from the hotel is 11:50 pm and the Marriott’s runs until midnight; the Hilton’s last run is 11:40 pm. After that, use the taxi rank outside Arrivals or Uber at P4.
